Sweet Aroma

Too often we are so consumed with finding and realizing our purpose, calling, and anointing in life. We are so desperate to know what we are anointed to do, then we run with it. It’s as though we’re suddenly filled with the gift and it becomes unappreciated, taken for granted, and most often misused. We can get so busy doing what God has called us to do, we forget the sacredness of it.
In John 12:3 we read, “Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”
The Lord had me write about this passage a while back but has now shown me a new way to also look at it. We all are anointed by the Lord for something. It’s in that anointing God reveals, helps, and speaks to others. However as stated earlier, were so busy spreading the anointing around in of ourselves.
The story of Mary shows her perfume was costly and valuable and yet she anointed Jesus with it. She gave it unto Him – wholly. As we relate this same thing to us, are we anointing Jesus back with the anointing He has placed within us?

Anything given to us by God is a blessing and we should return it all back to Him. To go in humility doing what He has called us to do in the power of the anointing He has placed upon us. When we are doing such things we need to remember the anointing on our life is very valuable and treasured in God’s eyes.
Wherever we go leave a sweet-smelling fragrance reflecting Jesus, that is lifted to Him in His house. We cannot allow ourselves to get so caught up with pride of our anointing, because it then leaves an unpleasant aroma to others, and to Christ. We need to be humbled in the Lord graciously giving us so much and understand we can’t do anything without Him. Our hearts should always be desiring to leave a sweet aroma of Christ wherever we go.
So instead of worrying about how much we think we’re anointed for something, we need to be humble and gracious. We need to truly in whatever we do for the Lord, make sure our hearts are pure towards God and not for the showing off to others of the anointing.
Offer everything back to God, even the anointing He has placed upon your life. That is when you will leave the sweet aroma that will reach even up to the Heavens, where Christ is sitting.
